Selection Criteria

The Robertson Scholars Program seeks students who have demonstrated the passion and potential to become great leaders in college and beyond. It is this vision which informs our selection process; our hope is that all Robertson scholars will play significant and impactful roles in their communities and society, today and in the future.

Understanding that high school students have had a range of opportunities and experiences, our program selects based not only on grades and traditional accomplishments, but also on demonstrated personal attributes.

We believe that individuals exhibit the capacity to lead when they demonstrate evidence of...

  • Academic distinction and intellectual curiosity
  • Out-sized impact as a leader within the student body and/or community (measured by the scale of achievement, breadth of followers mobilized, or significance of the resulting innovation)
  • Character and integrity

In addition, they...

  • are goal-oriented
  • take initiative and measured risks
  • are persistent, resilient, courageous
  • make an impact in a team setting
  • communicate well and influence broadly

There is no such thing as a 'typical' Robertson Scholar. Our scholars pursue a range of passions, academic interests, and personal and professional goals. Their skill sets, strengths, and personalities are unique but for one shared trait: the personal drive to have an impact on the world around them.
