What are you curious about and what do you hope to explore during your time in the program?
I’m really curious about the intersection between mathematics and politics. I love the rigor and systematic nature of mathematics, and I want to explore applying this characteristic quality to strengthen our political discourse. During my time in the program, I plan to do this by conducting research in this intersection, taking operations research classes at UNC, and more. I have a really strong interest in quantitative, but community-based research as a means of uncovering truth: how to quantify or characterize a problem, and how to optimize its solution. I also love the human side of politics: I want to use speechwriting as an outlet to craft narrative, uplift people’s voices, and weave together a wide breadth of issues. I see these two interests as part of a larger conviction to put action behind my talk.
