Since joining RSLP how have you grown as a leader?
I’m really interested in Indigenous environmental governance, and through RSLP I’ve been able to actively ground my research in lived experiences of communities, including my own Métis community. From travelling to the Arctic during exploration summer to visiting Bunong communities while studying abroad in Cambodia, I have been struck by community resilience and assertion of sovereignty in the face of political and environmental pressures. These experiences have empowered me to advocate for Indigenous self-determination in academic and policy spaces, and promote the importance of learning from Indigenous communities about climate mitigation on their own terms.
