How do you believe you’ll create transformational change?
As a Métis (Indigenous) student, I am interested in helping to design federal and provincial policies in a way that is more attentive to the needs of marginalized communities like Indigenous communities in Canada. Most legislation aimed at helping Indigenous communities is not designed with guidance from community-members, making it ineffective and contributing to many socio-economic issues like food insecurity and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. I hope to use my Exploration Summer to travel to different international Indigenous communities to learn about problems they are facing and community-driven solutions, and to bring these ideas back to a Canadian context.
