The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program considers summer opportunities an essential component of the Robertson experience. Our unique three-part summer model (Community, Exploration, Launch) challenges Scholars to pursue both domestic and international experiences, explore and act on individual passions, and step outside of their comfort zone. Year-round, Scholars work closely with the program staff and alumni to design, implement, and learn from these meaningful and personally relevant experiences.

Community Summer

The Community Summer focuses on community building and cultural immersion. Scholars live together in one of four locations: the Mississippi Delta, Eastern North Carolina, the Appalachian region of Kentucky, or New Orleans. Through partnerships with community-based organizations in each of these locations, the Robertson Program has created internships that focus on serving the community in many ways.

Exploration Summer

Scholars have the option to design an Exploration Summer after their second year in the Robertson Program. This summer encourages Scholars to expand the boundaries of their interests, passions, and goals through intellectually rich activities. Scholars can pursue their exploration summer domestically or internationally.

Launch Summer

Scholars spend the summer after their junior year engaged in an independent, self-designed project intended to focus their interests and launch them into life after college. Projects have included research for honors theses, pre-professional internships, and expansions of work undertaken in previous Robertson summers.
