Another Robertson Scholar has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Join us in congratulating Gabrielle Moreau ’26 on this remarkable achievement.

Gabrielle, a native of Toronto, is a Rhodes Scholar for the Canada constituency. She is a Robertson Scholar and Honors Carolina student pursuing a major in geography at the UNC College of Arts and Sciences, along with a second major in environmental science at Duke University. Gabrielle holds dual citizenship with Canada and the Métis Nation of Ontario.

Deeply committed to Indigenous governance and environmental conservation, Gabrielle has represented Ontario on the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council for the past five years, advocating for Indigenous youth engagement and leadership. Her global perspective has taken her to international stages, including serving as a youth delegate at COP16 in Colombia. She has also worked with the Harvard Project on Indigenous Governance and Development, explored the Arctic through the Students on Ice program, and studied abroad at King’s College London and the School for Field Studies in Cambodia.

“At Oxford, I plan to pursue a Master of Philosophy in Political Theory to engage with theories of justice and human rights,” Gabrielle shared. “I hope later to bring this knowledge to bear upon doctoral work in human geography on Indigenous conceptions of knowledge and justice.”

When asked what it means to share this honor with fellow Robertson Tiana Dinham ’26, who was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship last Thursday, Gabrielle said:

“I am so thrilled that Tiana and I will get to be at Oxford together! One thing I’ve really loved about our cohort of Robertsons is that we all cheer each other on as we pursue our own passions, which have taken us across the United States and around the world. It’s been a beautiful constant for me that no matter where I study abroad or travel during a Robertson summer, I always know I’ll get to come back to that community. I’ve been in awe of Tiana and the work she’s done ever since we took the same first-year seminar on field geology in eastern California, and I saw her developing a passion for geology. I’m very excited that we’ll get to continue cheering each other on at Oxford!”

Gabrielle is UNC’s 57th Rhodes Scholar and the fourth scholar from the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program to receive this prestigious award.
